Ivan Kwan

Ivan Kwan is a Principal Envi­ron­men­tal Engineer with over 25 years of experience. Ivan is also accredited by the Department of Water and Envi­ron­men­tal Regulation (DWER) as a Cont­a­m­i­nated Sites Auditor in Western Australia and the South Australian Envi­ron­men­tal Protection Authority (EPA) as a Site Cont­a­m­i­na­tion Auditor. Ivan has worked extensively for the private sector and Government in cont­a­m­i­nated land inves­ti­ga­tions, assessment, remediation and management, surface hydro­log­i­cal studies (for various projects including mine closure in Australia and overseas), and the inves­ti­ga­tion and management of acid sulfate soils associated with residential devel­op­ments and public infra­struc­ture. He has also undertaken various due diligence audits for inter­na­tional finance companies and Government agencies.  Ivan has a demon­strated strategic view of cont­a­m­i­nated site management, focusing on constraints and oppor­tu­ni­ties for site remediation and development.

Cont­a­m­i­nated Sites

Scoping and imple­ment­ing site inves­ti­ga­tion, management, and remediation for a broad range of mining, major infra­struc­ture and oil and gas projects. 

Waste Management and Soil Reuse

Review of waste guidance and involved in the revision of the regulatory waste framework. Involved in waste assessment and waste clas­si­fi­ca­tion projects to char­ac­terise material for reuse and/or management.

Acid Sulfate Soil Assessment

Formulation of acid sulfate soil assessment programs, imple­men­ta­tion, and data inter­pre­ta­tion. Involved in strategic advice for management and minimising disturbance by using alternative construc­tion methods or reducing dewatering.

Asbestos

Site inves­ti­ga­tions and remediation of asbestos-impacted sites from residential devel­op­ments through to large-scale site devel­op­ments for schools and other sensitive facilities/land uses. 

Landfills

Involved in a variety of landfill assessment projects for Government and industry clients. Responsible for scoping of assessment, liaison with regulators, gas, soil and groundwater measure­ments and data inter­pre­ta­tion. Review of waste composition and waste disposal processes. 

Community Consul­ta­tion and Partic­i­pa­tion

Presen­ta­tion of technical information at community meetings and public partic­i­pa­tion forums. 

Mine Closure

Technical advice and direction with respect to mine closure require­ments for the scoping and assessment of site inves­ti­ga­tions to meet regulatory conditions relating to landform stability, cont­a­m­i­na­tion, and ongoing commitments.
