WePass: Facilitating Fish Migration and Conservation at the Iron Gates
What is WePass?
WePass is an initiative aiming to facilitate fish migration in the Danube River Basin. A team of multi-disciplinary experts from the ICPDR, CDM SMITH, DDNI, IMSI, JCWI, NINA and OAK is focussing on the restoration of common and endangered fish species migration routes in the Danube River, its tributaries, and specifically at the Iron Gate Dams.

Working in Stages
The first project stage "WePass” (11/2018 - 11/2021) constituted the preparatory works for a feasibility study of fish migration solutions for the Iron Gate Dams – the second project stage entitled “WePass2”. The WePass2 website contains an overview of the activities that commenced in 04/2022 and include extensive fish movement monitoring and the preliminary design of fishways at the Iron Gate Dams.
