“My favorite part of my job is collaborating with professionals who are passionate about finding the best solutions to transportation problems,” says Jessie Carroll, CDM Smith’s discipline leader of intelligent transportation systems.
Jessie is a civil engineer with over two decades of transportation planning and engineering experience, and knowledge in traffic forecasting, signal warrant analysis, highway capacity analysis, conceptual design, signing and marking plans, as well as cost analysis. Her ITS experience includes reviewing and recommending ITS technologies, evaluating their performance, infrastructure placement and design, and site planning.
She serves as the project manager for a feasibility study located in Kane County, Illinois to improve the interchange of a facility serving over 91,000 vehicles. This study is a collaborative effort looking at concepts to optimize and re-configure the interchange to improve mobility and safety, as well as economic development and access.
Jessie got her first glimpse of transportation involvement during one of her first college jobs. “I was driving a transit bus that connected the students, staff, and visitors to the north and south campuses at the University of Michigan. It was one of the best jobs I’ve had, and it geared me up for the operations side of transportation engineering,” she says.
Most clients would say that I am a positive, upbeat person who looks at problems from a holistic view and likes to collaborate.
