"I am inspired by working on complex and challenging projects," says environmental engineer Stephen Dent. "I like to reflect on the hurdles that were overcome and then see how far we as a team came by implementing solutions that work." Stephen is a leading contaminant monitoring expert on Superfund sites, with a focus on lake management and hard rock mine site investigations and permitting.
Notably, Stephen has developed, managed, and operated an analytical laboratory specializing in trace mercury analysis. With over a decade of experience in the industry, Stephen's expertise spans across mercury fate and transport, as well as engineered water quality improvement projects that require the monitoring of nutrients, metals and trace mercury. He works in both active open pit mining properties and abandoned mine sites.
He works by prioritizing client needs above all, and making a deep effort to establish a mutual understanding between client wants and how the firm can deliver those top-notch services. "We first must listen and understand, then use our vast team of resources to analyze and plan an approach that surpasses client expectations," Stephen says.
Regarding his experience with the firm, he says, "What impresses me about working for CDM Smith is its wide range of expertise across all disciplines. The employee experience pool is deep here, which allows us to put amazingly talented teams together to tackle very wide ranges of challenging projects and bring them to successful completions."
