Currently he is advising various clients on how to restore up- and downstream fish passage at large hydraulic structures, such as the Iron Gate dams (Serbia/Romania) and the Afsluitdijk (Ijsselmeer/Wadden Sea in the Netherlands).
How would your customers describe you? My clients know me as a partner with a broad knowledge of water management and hydraulic engineering as well as a good breadth of understanding. They appreciate my reliability and my open and trusting cooperation. Moreover, they know that I set a high value on good work quality.
What is the best thing about your working day? CDM Smith enables me to work independently and on my own responsibility, and to work in an environment according to the motto: "If you can't trust your employees to work self dependent and flexible, why hire them in the first place?” My professional goals and private life are compatible - my employer obviously knows that employees with a good work-life balance are more dependable, loyal, and productive.
Where do you see the added value of CDM Smith for our customers? Our company offers a diverse portfolio of services and an extremely broad spectrum of knowledge from a single source. Through the nationwide distribution of our offices in Germany and other European countries, we offer the regional proximity that our customers value.
What tips do you have for young engineers? I have always found that "looking beyond the rim of the tea cup" adds to my knowledge and experience. Extraordinary dedication and commitment, also on an honorary basis, for example, in professional associations, pays off sooner or later.
Our vision of a beautiful watercourse is… this is where I would like to build my home.
