Bill Cesanek, CDM Smith’s senior infra­struc­ture planner, is inspired by “the conviction that I, and my many talented colleagues, can help to create a smarter and more sustainable future through better infra­struc­ture and city planning efforts."

Bill boasts unique expertise in Green Stormwater Infra­struc­ture planning to manage stormwater sustainably and support community renewal, as well as experience in smart city utility technology and geographic information systems. Bill’s work extends across many sectors, including water resources, infra­struc­ture, and envi­ron­men­tal planning and permitting, water reliability, and web development. He is also involved in several climate resilience projects being implemented in New Jersey under HUD’s Rebuild by Design program.

A relentless champion for water in the planning community, Bill serves as Chair of the Water & Planning Network of the American Planning Association, where he's played a crucial role in estab­lish­ing the importance of water as a central organizing element in healthy urban envi­ron­ments. With a steady focus on driving innovation, Bill has also developed several complex web appli­ca­tions, including an Early Warning System addressing surface water pollution for the Philadel­phia Water Department. He is also an adjunct professor of infra­struc­ture planning at Rutgers Graduate School of Planning.
